We could probably automate some of these things with package update trickery… but it is our policy to not hide these things from the user. Arch Linux does not get the benefit of being able to make changes like this at the time of a major release because we have none. This is the price you pay for a rolling release distribution. The only trick is getting the packages updated in the right order.
